Welcome to NVRID

Welcome to the website of the Nevada Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NVRID). NVRID is an affiliate chapter of the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). NVRID follows the mission of RID on a state level.

Hiring an interpreter

Your first time working with an interpreter should be easy and painless. As a hearing consumer a few things to keep in mind are:

  • Speak directly to the Deaf consumer (avoid saying “tell them…”)
  • Provide your interpreter with a copy of printed materials if available.
  • Interpreters need breaks about every 20 minutes (Try holding your arms out for two hours straight)
  • Interpreters use “lag time” to process and gain an understanding of the entire message before they begin signing.
