Description:
This workshop aims to help K-12 interpreters (and others working with d/Deaf and Hard-of- Hearing students in a mainstream setting) to understand the unique roles, responsibilities, and boundaries of a K-12 Interpreter.
The workshop will delve into the interpreter's primary role in an interpreted education and the secondary and tertiary roles interpreters often assume. Emphasis will be on recognizing the implicit power and responsibility of this role as a trusted adult in the classroom and the consequences of action and inaction when faced with challenges.
Participants will dialog and problem solve how to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries in their work. We will discuss the inverted pyramid of responsibility as it pertains to scaffolding and fostering student independence and educational success.
Presentation will be in ASL.
