The death of a loved one is so often a painful and confusing time for members of the family and dear friends. A wedding is a time for celebration for a journey between two people and their family and loved ones. Both ceremonies follow different Jewish laws, traditions, and symbols. As ASL interpreters, it may be beneficial to add this workshop "Interpreting a Jewish Funeral" and "Interpreting a Jewish Wedding" to your interpreting tool box. The Jewish community is growing at an exponential rate in Nevada and educating ourselves for professional and personal purposes is vital in our growth in the interpreting field.

Register for our morning workshop on interpreting for "Interpreting a Jewish funeral" from 9am-12pm and/or our afternoon workshop on "Interpreting a Jewish wedding" from 1pm-4pm. Both workshops will be presented by Karen Staller via-video teleconference. Those who register for both workshops will be provided a FREE lunch and chance to try a well known Jewish pastry from 12pm-1pm.

Northern Nevada: Western Nevada College (Room TBA soon)

Southern Nevada: CSN West Charleston Campus; Building I; Room 308

Karen Beth Staller has been an interpreter in Jewish settings since 1993, starting out by interpreting Hebrew school and family services for Deaf children and then studying liturgy and Hebrew, to enhance and improve her interpreting for members of the Jewish Deaf community and later, to study for her own bat mitzvah in 2007. With a degree in education, having worked in that field for over twenty-seven years (as well as freelance and video relay), Karen feels she has the ability to pass knowledge on to others - answering questions and providing information - on the level at which the participants show themselves to be. She feels these workshops, which combine two loves - Judaism and interpreting - fulfill a need for community interpreters and VIs, as well as the Deaf community.
