I currently am employed in the position of Lead Faculty in the Interpreter Preparation/Deaf Studies Program at the College of Southern Nevada. I am the owner of Preston Bass Interpreting Services serving Nevada and California. I have served as President of the Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (1976-1978) and the Nevada Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (2004-2008) and as advisor to the Nevada State Legislature on issues related to Deafness and interpreting. Prior to moving to Nevada I was employed as the Coordinator of Interpreting Services at California State University, Northridge where I worked for 31 years. In addition to my full time employment, I taught American Sign Language classes at various schools for over 30 years and performed with the “Interpresingers”, a traveling song-sign troupe.
I am a recipient of the 2006 Lou Fant Distinguished Service Award from SCRID. I hold certifications from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf as follows: Masters Comprehensive Skills Certificate; Specialist Certificate: Legal; Oral Interpreting Certificate: Comprehensive and the National Interpreter Certificate.
